  Moodle Go Live Process

    Use these documents to help you with planning and improving courses using elearning. Don't forget you have support available to you: eLearning community coordinators, eLearning development advisors, the elearning team, and other Te Puna Ako staff.
    If you are developing a course for its first appearance in the elearning world, make sure you use the support available to help you prepare.

  End of semester and preparing for the new semester

  If your course uses automatic enrolment, the old students will be unenroled and the new students will be enroled during the semester break. If you are using Moodle student artefacts for grades you will need to complete your grading before the students are unenroled. If you want all old student data removed and your course to be reset before the new students are enroled, here is the process.

  • Automatic enrolment for end of this semester and beginning of next Forum

  • Exporting grades

    Click Grades in the Administration block Use the drop down menu to choose Export grades as Open document spreadsheet Plain text file Excel spreadsheet XML file This downloads the grades to your computer.

  • Course Backup

    Click Backup in the Settings block On the first page you will be asked whether you want to include activities, blocks, and filters in your backup. All three are ticked by default, and you can leave them like this. Then click Next. CLICK HERE FOR IMAGE. On the second page you are shown all the activities and resources in your course. You can choose which ones will be backed up. By default all are selected. Click Next to continue. CLICK HERE FOR IMAGE. The next page prompts you for the file name, and gives you an overview of what you are backing up. Click Perform backup to continue. CLICK HERE FOR IMAGE. If your backup was successful, you will see a confirmation screen. CLICK HERE FOR IMAGE. This creates a backup zip file of the course and saves it in your private backup area. From here you can choose to restore this to a new course (if you have course creator privileges) or download and save it onto your local computer or H drive for future use. CLICK HERE FOR IMAGE. Once you have downloaded it, click on Manage backup files to delete this file from Moodle. This will help with reducing the size of our whole site backups.

  • Resetting your course

    This feature allows you to empty a course of user data, while retaining the activities and other settings. Please be warned that you will delete your chosen user data from this course forever!
    
    

    Click Reset in the Settings block BE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE STUDENT DATA YOU NEED FROM THE COURSE BEFORE YOU DO THIS Decided what events, logs and notes you wish to delete, what you are deleting from grade perspective and from forums and other student participative activities. You can choose the "Select default" button at the bottom of the page to select the most likely options automatically. Click reset course. It is now ready for the next semester. Te Puna Ako cannot restore your course after you reset it if you have not made a complete backup of the course before you reset it.

  Course and Item Availability and Visibility

   

  • To make an item visible to students ensure the eye is open
    To hide an item to students ensure the eye is closed

  • To set course availability to students go to Edit settings in the Settings block

    Scroll down until you see the section labelled "Availability"

    Change the drop down to available or unavailable as required
