    CIE Fishing trip with Snappercatchers on Friday 25th.
    
    We left Z Pier, Westhaven Marina, at 5:45 on a very wet and windy afternoon. It was rough but such fun... Everyone caught fish and had a fantastic time. We were back at 9:30 and are keen to do it again next term. Cheers from Jessica Phuang, Marie Frost & Marcus Thompson.

    This week students from the Advanced English and Certificate in English programs attended a powhiri at Unitec's unbelievably beautiful wharenui (it gets better with every visit ).
    
    As usual, we were warmly welcomed onto the marae by Hohepa Renata, and Pascal Brown delivered a mihi on our behalf. Steve Varley spoke on our behalf as our rangatira. This has become a real highlight of our year and we hope you all get the chance to visit (and revisit) this special place.     The All Greens (CIE's very own Saudi Arabian soccer team) played their first match last Friday in Auckland City's Cultural Football Festival. Despite the heavy downpour, they played valiantly and were very unlucky to lose the first match 1-0 to another team. But they have two more matches to play so they are still in with a chance to progress to the next round.
    
    

    The matches will be this Saturday (12 March) from 5.30pm. They will be held at Mt. Roskill Grammar school, Somerset Rd. They have two matches to play, with each match lasting 24 mins.

    So come along and support our team! You can be guaranteed of a warm welcome and very entertaining evening of soccer. I promise you it beats Saturday TV! (Marcus Thompson, CIE).

    Shandong Economic University - Accounting students orientation Feb-March 2011
    Over the last 3 1/2 weeks we have had 21 accounting students from Shandong Economic University who have been doing an intensive English course with us to get ready for their business studies this semester. The students also visited a number of interesting sites in and around Auckland (Auckland Museum, Mission Bay, Bastion Pt., Devonport, Nihotapu Dam and the Waitakere Ranges). They have made good progress with their language and had a great time seeing different parts of Auckland.
    
    At the end of their course they gave presentations on aspects of Auckland culture which were very well received.
    
    Well done to all of you and good luck for this semester (and a big thanks to Indra Dhanaraj who did a great job teaching you and guiding you around Auckland).

  Shandong Economics University Graduates

  • The Department of Language Studies and the Department of Accounting and Finance have been teaching English and Business courses at Shandong Economics University (Jinan, China) since 2007. A number of these students come to Unitec to complete either BBus or BA degrees. In 2010, we were very proud to have our first graduates (from both programmes).
