Nau mai haere mai and welcome to Sociology for Social Practice: Inequality and Social Change.

This course introduces you to key concepts and theories in sociology with a focus on contemporary Aotearoa.

We will explore the drivers of inequality across many ares: including class, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and what impacts these have on communities and individuals.

Sociology is about the study of society, and asking why we do the things we do. It is about becoming curious (using the "sociological imagination") to explore the often taken for granted aspects of our lives. It is a challenging subject, which will require you to read, explore, engage in class discussions, and to personally reflect on your own experience within society.

I look forward to meeting you all and sharing this learning journey with you.
