Hello everyone,

Savae here from Surveying Principles in Semester 1. I have been assigned to be your tutor for Land Administration 1 this semester.

Land Administration 1 is a 15 credit course and will run for one semester.

The aim of the course is to equip participants with introductory knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand, land settlement and use, land administration and registration systems

We will be looking at:

    1.   Main features of the New Zealand surveying system.

    2.   Historical settlement and use of land by Māori and non-Māori in New Zealand.

    3.   New Zealand systems of land legislation, registration, titles in a surveying context.

    4.  New Zealand land administration;  influences of land settlement and legislation on land title;     procedures for establishing the status and title of land; land ownership; acquisition of land for public purposes.

You will normally have one face-to-face session with me each week. The sessions will combine lectures, Q&As, class discussions and small group work.  I will sometimes ask you to do some preparation for the lecture. This might include a Moodle Quiz for weekly topics or watching pre-recorded videos. There will also be dedicated time provided in class to discuss assignments.

There is no textbook for this course, but readings, lecture notes, and descriptions of upcoming topics are in Moodle.
