Formal course surveys at Unitec take place towards the end of the course and are organised at an institutional level.

Ākonga are sent a link via email to the anonymous surveys for every course they are enrolled in.

TIP: Encourage your learners to complete the anonymous survey online by giving them some time in class to do it.

The survey includes questions about course structure, content, assessments, teaching, etc.

How do I see the survey results for my course?

Individual course survey results are reported to lecturers via their Academic Programme Manager, including summarised results and verbatim ākonga comments.

Aggregated course survey results are available on a Power BI dashboard (minus the verbatim comments) at the end of the semester.

Here is an example of the published Unitec-wide results in Power BI:

TIP: It is good practice to also conduct an early check-in (about week 3 or 4) with your classes. This early feedback will give you information about what is going well or if there are any improvements or suggestions from ākonga that you might be able to implement immediately.

Ask your Programme team how they evaluate their courses.

TOP TIP:

Always keep the feedback from ākonga because you might want to refer to it again or use it as evidence for future course improvements you may wish to make. Survey outcomes can be used to inform change proposals and action plans.

CLOSING THE LOOP

It is very important to 'close the loop' by letting ākonga know of any responses to their feedback. This encourages them to continue to provide feedback each semester.  Closing the loop also shows ngākau-māhaki (respect) for the learner voice.

EXAMPLES OF FEEDBACK

  1. When ākonga complained about the lack of seating areas outside of classrooms at one of the Unitec campuses, informal seating was provided in the corridors for ākonga to use the following year.
  2. When a large number of ākonga in one class found the timetabled slot difficult to attend, it was possible to change this timeslot for future semesters after liaison between the Timetabling Office and the APM
